The Who’s Pete Townshend says his ‘rock and roll’ antics made him feel like a ‘prat’

The ‘Baba O’ Riley’ guitarist – who was notorious for smashing his instrument to pieces on stage – has admitted he could be “pretty snobby” when it came to his and his bandmates’ wild ways, and he actually felt that when he and late drummer Keith Moon used to throw television out of hotel windows, it was a real “waste of time”. In an interview with The Big Issue magazine, the 74-year-old musician confessed: “I was always pretty snobby about rock and roll. “As the television went through the window, I would look at Keith Moon and go, ‘what a f***** prat. What a waste of time’. “Then, two or three times I did the same thing and I would think, ‘what a f****** prat’.” However, the former arts student – who is one of the two only surviving members of the iconic rock band, along with frontman Roger Daltrey – admitted that he wouldn’t have changed their instrument-thrashing days, because it’s how he made people “listen” to him. He added: “I was in it for the art. “I felt we should confine our antics to the stage. “Getting into auto-destruction was straight out of art college. “People still say […]

Rivers Cuomo and Andrew Yang sing “Say It Ain’t So” at campaign rally: Watch

On Friday, Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo played an Andrew Yang political rally in Des Moines, Iowa. For the event, dubbed Yangapalooza!, Cuomo was joined by Weezer bassist Scott Shriner. Together with a drummer, they performed a set divided between old Weezer favorites and covers from 2019’s The Teal Album (via Pitchfork). Cellphone footage captured snippets of “No Scrubs”, “Africa”, “Take on Me”, as well as Weezer classics like “Buddy Holly”, “Island in the Sun”, “Undone – The Sweater Song” and “Beverly Hills”. For “Say It Ain’t So”, Weezer was joined by Andrew Yang himself. The presidential hopeful, a self-identified “ex-goth,” danced in place and sang along with the band. Check out some clips below. At one point, Rivers Cuomo said, “Yang gang in the house,” but otherwise offered no explicit endorsement (the implicit endorsement, of course, is just showing up). Cuomo previously donated money to the Yang campaign. Yang is hardly the first candidate to pick up a celebrity endorsement. By our subjective count, the leader in that category is Bernie Sanders. Just last week Jack White came out in support of Sanders, joining Cardi B and Killer Mike in endorsing the Vermont Senator. The same day that Cuomo played Yangaplooza!, he shared […]

Here’s What Happened During Rivers Cuomo’s Yangapalooza! Set

Earlier today (November 1), Democratic Presidential hopeful Andrew Yang hosted Yangapalooza!—a campaign rally in downtown Des Moines, Iowa, where he was joined by Rivers Cuomo. Cuomo took to the outdoor stage at Des Moines’ Brenton Skating Plaza to perform a handful of Weezer hits as well as some familiar covers, according to a Pitchfork reporter. Cuomo played acoustic guitar alongside Weezer bassist Scott Shriner and a drummer, opening with “Buddy Holly” and launching into stripped-down versions of “Undone – The Sweater Song,” “Island in the Sun,” “Beverly Hills,” and more. Covers included TLC’s “No Scrubs,” Toto’s “Africa,” and A-ha’s “Take on Me,” all of which appear on Weezer’s covers LP The Teal Album. Watch clips of the set below. During Cuomo’s performance of “Say It Ain’t So,” Andrew Yang appeared onstage, saying, “You don’t look like the fucking internet to me!” Yang proceeded to dance at the front of the stage and sing along with the band, sans microphone. At the end of the song Yang shouted, “Let’s give it up for Rivers Cuomo and Weezer!” At one point during the concert, Rivers Cuomo said, “Yang gang in the house,” but did not otherwise explicitly endorse Yang’s campaign. YG pledges love for Kehlani after video shows him kissing another woman

Rapper YG has pledged his love for girlfriend Kehlani, after a video emerged which appeared to show him kissing another woman. Website The Shade Room shared a video and images of the Who Do You Love rapper leaving Los Angeles’ Poppy Nightclub late on Wednesday night. In the short clip, the star, who can be seen sitting in the passenger seat of a red sports car as its parked at the curb, chats to a woman in a silky kimono as she crouches down by the vehicle. As the video progresses, it appears as though the pair are making out, judging by the angle of the rapper and his new pal. The woman’s friend can also be heard telling her to “wrap this s**t up”, although the pair’s responses are inaudible. Following the publication of the video and images, YG took to Instagram to respond to the cheating allegations, writing: “I love Kehlani. I would never.” However, a representative for the star later said in a statement to The Shade Room he’d been caught in a “drunken moment” that he regrets. “He was drunk, got carried away and it was very regretful for putting himself in that situation and hurting […]

Green Day celebrate 25th anniversary of Dookie with full album performance in Madrid: Watch

The 25th anniversary of Dookie is coming to a close, but Green Day are far from done celebrating the seminal album. On Wednesday, October 30th, the band performed the 1994 record in full during a concert in Madrid, Spain. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong previously teased the surprise set on Instagram, and last night the three-piece delivered in epic fashion. The punk rockers wasted no time onstage at La Riviera, immediately kicking off their two-set (!) gig with Dookie. Their performance featured every single track off their third LP, including some that hadn’t been played live in over five years, such as “Chump”, “In the End”, and “Emenius Sleepus”. Green Day also offered up “All By Myself”, the hidden acoustic track which, as revealed recently, also happens to be Billie Eilish’s favorite off the record. (Read: The 13 Scariest Pop Songs) Following the Dookie showcase, Green Day proceeded with a second set of catalog favorites, like “Minority” and “Brain Stew”. The trio closed the evening with a two-track encore. Check out some fan-footage below, followed by the setlist. It’s unclear whether any more Dookie-focused concerts are in the cards for Green Day — they once hinted at a full-fledged tour — but Armstrong […]

Kelly Rowland hasn’t ruled out making new music with Destiny’s Child

The singer insists she has no plans to do a new track with her bandmates Beyoncé and Michelle Williams, but has confessed that if they were to do something, she wouldn’t say anyway as she’d want it to be a “surprise”. She told Entertainment Tonight: “I will say, we have made incredible music in the past, and I don’t know. Can we, like, have surprises in this day and age? I mean, I’m just saying. I just find it so interesting, everybody wants to know in advance. I know every time there is a decision to be made for myself and the ladies to do something, it’s usually a surprise. And our fans have always been so supportive and so awesome, like, I like to give them surprises. I’ve got nothing up my sleeve, I promise you, nothing up my sleeve, but yeah, I wouldn’t say anything.” Earlier this year, Beyonce’s father Mathew insisted a Destiny’s Child reunion is at least three years away. He said: “I certainly hope they do. It would be wonderful, wouldn’t it? But you know, things like that require years of preparation and timing. It takes years to put together a tour, get the band […]

Game of Thrones’ David Benioff and D.B. Weiss scrap plans for Star Wars film

Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are no longer developing a Star Wars film trilogy. In a statement released late Monday, the pair cited their recent overall deal with Netflix as the reason for their exit. “We love Star Wars. When George Lucas built it, he built us too. Getting to talk about Star Wars with him and the current Star Wars team was the thrill of a lifetime, and we will always be indebted to the saga that changed everything. But there are only so many hours in the day, and we felt we could not do justice to both Star Wars and our Netflix projects. So we are regretfully stepping away.” In her own statement, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy remarked, “David Benioff and Dan Weiss are incredible storytellers. We hope to include them in the journey forward when they are able to step away from their busy schedule to focus on Star Wars.” In 2018, prior to the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones going into production, Benioff and Weiss signed a deal with Disney to develop a new series of films. Some fans and critics of GoT subsequently blamed the deal for the […]
