Celeste reveals Lewis Capaldi is a fan of her music

MTV Push: Ones To Watch 2020 nominee Celeste has revealed last year’s winner Lewis Capaldi is a fan of her music. The soul singer – who has supported the likes of Neneh Cherry and Janelle Monae – has been shortlisted for the same rising star accolade that the ‘Grace’ hitmaker won this year, and she has revealed they are both fans of one another’s work. Speaking to Marco Gandolfi for Music-News.com, Celeste said: “I am a fan of Lewis Capaldi and I think we write with some of the same writers and stuff.” Asked if they plan to collaborate, Celeste said: “I don’t know. “But I heard that he’s listened to my songs – so that’s cool.” Celeste is among 10 artists who have been shortlisted for the prize, including ‘Loner’ hitmaker Yungblud, singer/songwriter JC Stewart, rappers Aitch and Deno, and alternative pop band Easy Life. Plus Joel Corry – whose single ‘Sorry’ featured on ‘Love Island’ this year – singer/songwriter Joy Crookes, Lily Moore, the daughter of late guitar legend Gary Moore, and indie rockers Sea Girls. The up-and-coming star says it’s a “huge honour” to be recognised by MTV, and revealed how she was inspired by her idols […]

Enrique Iglesias concerts cancelled amid scam reports

Enrique Iglesias has been forced to cancel several concerts in eastern Europe after reports of a scam by promoters. The Hero hitmaker was due to perform in Croatia, Latvia, and Belarus in December, but the gigs have been abruptly pulled. A statement posted on the website of Latvian agency Bilesu Serviss claims Iglesias’ reps at the Creative Arts Agency cancelled the shows after promoters failed to fulfil their side of an agreement to stage the gigs. “Sadly and regrettably, after much careful consideration, and exhausting all possible alternatives, we have been forced to cancel the upcoming shows in Zagreb, Riga, and Minsk,” their explanation reads. “ArtBG, the concert tour promoter, producer, and event organizer, have not complied nor fulfilled their contractual obligations with the venues and all production elements for these three events. All of this makes it impossible to put on the show that our fans deserve. Safety for our fans and crew is paramount and we cannot guarantee this for everyone without the promoter fulfilling their obligations.” According to the music industry website Pollstar, a promoter claiming to represent ArtBG has scammed fans out of their money by promoting the gigs without paying either Enrique and his team […]

will.i.am hits out at ‘racist’ Quantas flight attendant

will.i.am took to Twitter to accuse a Qantas flight attendant of racism while on board an internal flight from Brisbane to Sydney in Australia on Saturday. The Black Eyed Peas star, real name William Adams, whose group is part of the RNB Fridays Live festival tour, hit out at the service he and his entourage received at the hands of the “aggressive” staff member. “I’m sorry to say me and my group have experienced the worst service due to an overly aggressive flight attendant,” the Where Is the Love? star penned. “I don’t want to believe she racist. But she has clearly aimed all her frustrations only at the people of colour.” The musician went on to complain about having police greet him at the terminal despite being “polite” and respectful to crew members during his ordeal, and shared a shaky photo of a federal police officer, who greeted the group on disembarking the plane. “This is how you’re greeted when you land from Brisbane to Sydney flying @qantas with a #RacistFlightattendant,” he added. “She sent the police after me because I couldn’t hear the P.A while making beats on the plane wearing noise cancelling headphones.” While the star was […]

Camila Cabello and Billie Eilish named on TIME 100 Next list

Camila Cabello and Billie Eilish are among the stars named in TIME magazine’s 100 Next 2019 list. Billie and Camila are joined on the list by rappers Lil Nas X and Megan Thee Stallion, singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers, comedian Awkwafina, Latin star Bad Bunny, and the actors Noah Centino, Ezra Miller, Henry Golding, Beanie Feldstein, Mj Rodriguez, and Keke Palmer. In a video filmed for TIME, the Havana hitmaker, who left Cuba for the U.S. with her parents as a child, explained that in addition to making music, she felt it was important to speak out about the issues that matter to her such as mental health and immigration. “Immigration is such a huge issue right now, and it’s really sad there’s just like this energy talking about the political terms, these people (immigrants) are running from danger in a lot of cases and just trying to look out for their kids, just like anyone would,” she said. “That’s the reason I’m outspoken about my family story.” As with the normal TIME 100, which has run for 15 years and names the most influential people in the world, most honorees receive a tribute from another star explaining why they are so […]

The Who’s Pete Townshend will only smash a guitar again to raise money for charity

The 74-year-old guitarist and his band mates – comprised of Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle, and drummer Keith Moon – were known for their hedonistic behaviour which included smashing their instruments and wrecking their stages, but now that he’s older, Pete has said he’ll only cause damage to another guitar if it helps to raise money for charity. He said: “I haven’t smashed guitars for a long time, for me it was an expression of youth. I smashed a guitar on David Letterman and it auctioned for $168,000. I am prepared to smash a guitar for charity.” As well as instruments, The Who were no strangers to destroying hotel rooms at the height of their career. Pete also spoke about the longevity of his career, as he said he’s “shocked” that his music has remained meaningful for decades. He added: “For Roger Daltrey and me, we are both shocked that our music has lasted so long and still has consequence and meaning. Roger wanted to use an orchestra on the tour, which I was suspicious of.” The ‘Pinball Wizard’ hitmaker reflected on the music industry today, and said that whilst music these days seems to be “two polarised strands”, The Who […]
