IRIS HARRISON, who has been doing middays at ENTERCOM Classic Rock KGON/PORTLAND for 42 years, took to FACEBOOK to announce she’s leaving the station after DECEMBER, via a video posted on the station’s website.
“This isn’t goodbye, it’s just see you later,” she promised in the clip below, announcing plans for a podcast in the new year featuring all her classic interviews and on-air bits, which she’d like to dub, “The KGON Chronicles.”
The longtime KGON icon recalled how she started at the station in MARCH, 1977, doing promotions and other odd jobs, eventually taking an on-air shift and even several stints as the station’s PD. “What a long, strange trip it’s been,” she mused, a fixture on the PORTLAND rock and radio scene for more than four decades.
Admitting she wanted time to spend with her “three amazing granddaughters” and take that promised road trip with her husband MARTY PARTY, a fellow radio personality who retired several years ago, IRIS has other projects on tap for the future, including the resurrection of “Closet Classics.” She promised to return in 2020.
