Metallica postpone tour as James Hetfield enters rehab

Metallica frontman James Hetfield has entered a treatment program for addiction, forcing the band to postpone their upcoming tour of Australia and New Zealand. The metal icon famously struggled with alcohol abuse throughout the band’s career but entered rehab in the early 2000s, and was sober for many years. Unfortunately, the band divulged this evening (September 27th) that Hetfield has relapsed. The rest of Metallica — Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo — issued the following statement via the band’s official website: We are truly sorry to inform our fans and friends that we must postpone our upcoming tour of Australia and New Zealand. As most of you probably know, our brother James has been struggling with addiction on and off for many years. He has now, unfortunately, had to re-enter a treatment program to work on his recovery again. We fully intend to make our way to your part of the world as soon as health and schedule permit. We’ll let you know as soon as we can. Once again, we are devastated that we have inconvenienced so many of you, especially our most loyal fans who often travel great distances to experience our shows. We appreciate your […]

Panic! at the Disco’s Brendon Urie debuts fierce heavy metal song: Stream

Late last year, Panic! At The Disco frontman Brendon Urie promised to launch a “metal project” in the near future. After previously teasing with a raging version of the band’s “The Calendar”, today Urie returns with an all-new original heavy metal song. Urie debuted the track during a Twitch stream filmed inside his studio, as Alternative Press points out. A fierce and explosive listen, the as-yet-untitled track features some especially guttural screams courtesy of Urie himself (he even points to his throat in the video). Quite a shift from his complete pop turn with Taylor Swift on “ME!”. (Buy: Tickets to Panic! at the Disco’s Upcoming Shows) Check it out below. [embedded content] Urie’s metal adventures stem from his desire to challenge himself and try out new things musically. “I still feel like I can do more,” Urie told Rock Sound last December. He continued, “Even from song to song within one album I feel like things could change even more drastically, and maybe that’ll happen as time goes on. I still have so many different things that I want to do, particularly in terms of genres.” No word on whether fan Mayor Pete Buttigieg is on board for this version […]

Zac Efron: Metallica’s James Hetfield “crushed” his role as a cop in Ted Bundy movie

James Hetfield in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, via Brian Douglas (COTA Films) The new movie Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile premieres on Netflix and in select movie theaters this Friday (May 3rd), and actor Zac Efron, who stars as serial killer Ted Bundy, has nothing but praise for Metallica frontman James Hetfield’s role in the film. Hetfield plays Officer Bob Hayward, the highway patrolman who arrested Bundy in 1975. While it may be his first dramatic acting role, Hetfield had previous experience working with the film’s director, Joe Berliner, who co-directed the infamous Metallica documentary Some Kind of Monster. Last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Efron was asked by the late-night host about working with the Metallica legend, and the actor immediately applauded at hearing Kimmel utter Hetfield’s name. “He comes on the set, and it’s one of the more pivotal moments,” began Efron. “It’s the moment that Ted actually got caught for the first time — he ran a stop sign. And James Hetfield plays the policeman that picks him up.” Efron continued, “And James Hetfield, to his credit, and absolutely nailed the part, he just crushed it. It’s like he’s been acting his own life. […]
