Kevin Smith announces new anime He-Man series for Netflix called Masters of the Universe: Revelation

Kevin Smith announced he’s working on a new anime He-Man series for Netflix. The ’80s-indebted show will be called Masters of the Universe: Revelation. The Jay and Silent Bob Reboot director broke the news over the weekend during the Power-Con convention. It turns out Masters of the Universe: Revelation will play into the He-Man nostalgia by existing in the Mattel toy world and exploring some of the unresolved plots from the original animated show, which ran for two seasons from 1983 to 1985. Smith will serve as a showrunner and as the executive producer. “I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe,” said Smith, reports Variety. “In Revelation, we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor! Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame, this is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!” (Read: Ranking Kevin Smith Movies From Worst to Best) Mattel Television is producing along with Rob David, the vice president of […]

Disney threatens to boycott Georgia over abortion ban

Disney has followed Netflix’s lead and is threatening to cease production in Georgia if the state follows through with its controversial abortion ban. In an interview with Reuters, Disney CEO Bob Iger said it would be “very difficult” to see the company continue to operate in Georgia. “I think many people who work for us will not want to work there, and we will have to heed their wishes in that regard. Right now we are watching it very carefully,” Iger explained. As such, if the law does goes into effect, Iger doesn’t “see how it’s practical for us to continue to shoot there.” Disney has filmed several major productions in Georgia in recent years, including Black Panther and Avengers: Endgame. Alabama’s law bans abortions as early as six weeks into pregnancy, when many women are still unaware of being pregnant at all. While hardly the first bill of its nature to rise through state governments in recent weeks, it’s drawing ire from a substantial number of producers and filmmakers who use the state’s myriad sound stages and lucrative tax credits for their productions. Earlier this week, Netflix CEO Ted Sarando announced that the company will work with the ALCU and […]

All of Marvel’s Netflix series have been cancelled, with Jessica Jones and The Punisher getting the axe

In the past few months, the Netflix arm of Marvel’s film and TV empire has clearly been winding things down. Whether it’s because of Disney’s forthcoming streaming service, or simply because the pop culture mega-conglomerate is trying to bring all of its properties in-house from now on, Netflix previously announced that Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist have all been cancelled. Now the last dominoes have fallen, as Deadline reports that The Punisher and Jessica Jones have been axed. The former leaves just after its second season debuted on the streaming service, while the latter will air its already completed third season before ending its run. There’s no current release date for the final season of Jessica Jones, but it will mark the conclusion of a five-year run on Netflix for the far more adult side of Marvel’s output. Here’s Netflix’s statement to Deadline about the cancellations: “Marvel’s The Punisher will not return for a third season on Netflix. Showrunner Steve Lightfoot, the terrific crew, and exceptional cast including star Jon Bernthal, delivered an acclaimed and compelling series for fans, and we are proud to showcase their work on Netflix for years to come. In addition, in reviewing our Marvel programming, we have decided that the upcoming third season will also be the […]
